With Dave gone, it was time for me to catch up on a classic Love Story, literally. I have seen a lot of other "romance" movies where they make references to this one, so I thought it was probably worth the watch. It was rated PG, but that was back in 1971, so there was some non-PG content, noticeably language and "love". I can check this movie off of my "to see at some point" list, but you don't need to rush off and add it to yours. The soundtrack was a little over the top and the line that has become quoted often is "love means never having to say you're sorry." I guess this would be a great line for many out there, but to me, it is ridiculous. If you don't say that you are sorry to those you love, why would you apologize to those you don't? But the bigger question is, what part of my female psyche makes me want to watch shows like this when 9 times out of 10 I don't even like them? I guess it is the 10th one that makes all the difference.... So for the girls (and maybe even the boys) out there - what Love Stories are worth the watch to you?
This is the story of our family. The travels, laughter, fun times and maybe even a few frustrations.

Love Story

I've never seen this one, but I love how that quote gets used in Ryan O'Neal's "What's Up Doc". One of them (I think it's Barbara) says it to the other, there's a pause, and then the other says, "That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard."
My schmaltzy favorites are "Shadowlands", "Enchanted April" and stuff like that.
By far my favorite is Ever After.
I don't know about most favorite of all time, but we have watched "Sleepless in Seattle" (might be good for you), "French Kiss" (a little too much Meg Ryan for me), "Someone Like You" with Hugh Jackman and Ashley Judd, "Love Comes Softly" (a western with Katherine Heigl), "Enchanted" (we liked the upbeat tone of the movie), "Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day" (a couple of love stories going on here, one young and one older), and of course "Roman Holiday" (Audrey Hepburn's first movie -- you can see how her teeth were straightened during the shooting of the film). Neither of us thought "Love Story" was any good when it first came out, and I doubt that time has done it any favors.
We have seen, and liked, Roman Holiday. I didn't notice the teeth before, but now I definitely have to watch it again!
Just blog-surfing. :) I saw Love Story awhile ago and thought the same thing: barf. A good comedy of the same era with Ryan ONeill is "What's Up Doc" - he actually makes fun of Love Story at the end.
What's up Doc is a Younce family classic so I have seen it a couple of times, and I agree, it is very funny and way better than Love Story.
