Hilde has definitely picked up an accent, and we are only a month into our grand adventure. She puts it on whenever she is talking about something about school, or one of her friends that is British, or repeating a phrase she has heard a Brit say. Basically her pattern of speech has become very situational. Here are a few of her phrases these days (imagine these in 4 year old British accent):
- It would be silly not to have the windows down because it is such a lovely day outside. (she uses lovely to describe just about anything these days)
- Mum, you got that straight away (praising me for being able to guess her I Spy object quickly)
- Pardon. Pardon. Mom, pardon means I didn't understand you.
- Enoch, did you go wee in the toilet? I am so proud of you.
- I would like some crisps now. (Asking for potato chips)

How cute! I cannot wait to hear her accent! I wonder if Enoch's will be stronger once he gets one since he is younger or not as strong since Hilde understands what an accent is. Only time will tell.
Next thing you know she'll be doing that word game
"Then we're in Barney"
"-Barney... what?"
"Barney Rubble"
"-ummmmm..."
"TROUBLE!"
"-Oh."
Ungraciously stolen from Ocean's 11
Dan - that's just good old Rhyming slang - we watched a show about that the other day and it was pretty tricky to follow
What Dave calls tricky, I call impossible. It made my head hurt trying to follow the dialogue through the thick accents AND catch all the rhyming slang.
How thick is the accent where you are all living? It's not as thick as Cockney is it? Your kids could come back sounding like Bert from Marry Poppins!
How about you and Dave? Any chance your accent is showing yet? I'm so bad that I sound Hispanic when I finish talking to my grandparents, Italian when I watch the Sopranos, and Irish when I finish watching The Quiet Man with my girlfriend.
That is really really really cute and a little creepy, like who is taking over my Hilde? I wonder how she'll do back in America in a few weeks.
Dave can't help but slip into an accent. I am pretty immune, although I like to try out some of the phrases from time to time. I think Hilde gets her gift of accents from Dave and Enoch is following my footsteps.
I'm dying... that is so dang cute! I'm gonna call her tomorrow, just to get a sample...
