Diving into Sports

With Hilde 9 and Enoch 7, we finally decided it was time to let them try a sports season.  We didn't take the decision lightly.  It meant giving up many Saturdays, a precious commodity to us.  It meant driving kids to practices three times a week, disrupting our family dinner schedule and putting us right back into Northern Virginia rush hour traffic.  It meant buying sports equipment for both of them.  All of that brings in added stress, which we generally try to avoid.  However, I grew up playing sports and have a firm belief that being good at sports helped me to have a good self esteem, something that I pray every day that Hilde and Freya will have.  While boys need it also, so many girls struggle from self esteem issues that it is scary.  I want to fight that with every fiber of my being.  My girls are fantastic, smart, creative, fun, witty, clever, and yes, beautiful.  I want them to be confident women who believe in themselves.  Additionally, Enoch has been begging us to play baseball for at least 3 years now.  So we signed Hilde up for soccer and Enoch up for coach pitch baseball.  We are deep into sports now.  I am not going to lie, it is hard at times, but the kids are loving it.  Which, of course, is both a blessing and a curse.  And it turns out that they are both naturals, getting better every week.
