When we woke up the morning of the second day, we were pulling into port at La Valletta, Malta. Ever since Dave and I saw the Maltese Falcon starring the wonderful Humphrey Bogart, it has been a point of interest. It isn't that it stars in the film, just that I know so little about Malta. So here we are.

We disembarked the ship right next to these houses with the brightly colored doors. Every building in Malta is made of the same stone, so some Maltese decorate their doors with bright colors to liven things up a bit. We did a bus tour with lots of stops for our excursion. It was great to be able to see so much, but it was tiring to hear the guide talk non-stop and there were some places we would have loved to linger longer. Maybe sometime we'll do an extended trip.

A big feast day festival for the Holy Trinity was coming up, so many streets were getting decorated. Apparently they were having high winds a few days before our arrival so our guide kept apologizing that things were not more decorated.

The Palace of the Grand Masters of the
Order of St. John (Hospitallers). It was amazing how many buildings were in Malta related to the Order.

We stopped at a fishing dock, mainly because there was an outdoor market there, which seemed geared to tourists who are dropped off their by their coaches. Regardless, we enjoyed the beautiful sunshine. It had been so long since Enoch had seen it that he could barely open his eyes! We also got a nice table runner with the beautiful Maltese cross on it and a few other nice souvenirs to take home.

My favorite stop was the old city of
Mdina. It was gorgeous, and we could only spend a few short minutes there. It was also the end of the day and the kids were barely hanging on. If we had hours there, we would have just stopped and looked at all the door knockers - Malta is known for them. We also would have found one to buy. Wouldn't it be awesome to have one of these on your front door!

If there is a cannon nearby - Enoch will be manning it.

WOW! What knockers! I am loving your pictures and the travelog. How nice to have the setup for the kids on board the ship. I am looking forward to the next installment.
