Rome was a place I really hope we re-visit sometime. There was just so much to see and do that we couldn't fit it all in. We decided to do Rome on our own - no annoying tour guide or having to go with everyone else's pace. The bus dropped us off at the Vatican and we immediately caught a cab down to the Coliseum. Then from there we made our way back up towards the Vatican to finally meet up with our bus back to the ship. It was a full day out. Because we were on our own, and not in a tour group, the lines were too long for us to go into the Coliseum, the Sistine Chapel, or some other places. But with the kids, it was probably for the best. Instead, we looked from the outside and wandered all around Rome. We saw Trevi fountain, shopped at a handmade wooden toy story which was fantastic, and spent some time around the Pantheon. That is where we discovered an awesome pizza place. You walk in and tell them which pizza you want and they cut you off as much as you like, then you pay by the gram. Each pizza is in a great big sheet to start with. It was fun, cheap, and the pizza was amazing. After lunch we got gelato a few streets over, and it was the best gelato we had the whole trip - and that is saying something. So, if you go to Rome - we'll pass along our recommendations. The last part of our day we spent at St. Peter's Basilica. It was very beautiful.
When we got back on the ship Disney had brought in an Italian opera singer to sing to everyone. At our house, Dave sings in a silly Italian voice and the kids call it "embarassing songs". So imagine my red cheeks when Enoch walks in, and right in front of this guy says "oh no -not EMBARASSING songs!"

Enoch might grow up to appreciate opera yet. I love the pictures, and you look so great by the fountain. We thought the traffic in Rome was crazy- did you have any trouble crossing the streets? I think the sights outside are more interesting than the inside ones, espeically with kiddos. There is a gelato bar now at Whole Foods and I hope you will critique it this time next year.

Carol - traffic wasn't any crazier than we experienced in Turkey, so we didn't really notice. There were a ton of motorcycles and mopeds everywhere. We had the gelato at Whole Foods a couple of times before we left, it was very yummy.
We loved Rome with our kids. It's a great town for kids, what with all the fun on the streets and cats and gelato and pizza. Hope you threw 3 coins in Trevi so you'll be sure to go back.
We did throw some coins in, and in my head I keep planning our next trip there. Don't tell Dave.
