A couple of days beforehand we got a notice that the excursion we had booked for La Spezia (a trip to a castle claiming to have dinosaur bones) was canceled. At that point the kids were already showing severe signs of "excursion fatigue", so we decided not to plan anything in its place. Instead, we spent a leisurely day, mostly on the boat. Dave and I did spend some couple time ashore. This was the first time that we tendered to land. This meant the boat anchored offshore and small boats ferried us back and forth. It turns out that nothing was open in La Spezia the hours we were ashore, 2-4. We eventually found really good pizza and gelato, but otherwise we just walked, talked and window shopped.

The rest of the day we spent by the pool, and napping. Late that night Hilde and I went on the top deck to see the "Pirates in the Caribbean" party. We completely underestimated what a big deal that was. Everyone was dressed up in costumes. All of the Disney characters were on stage singing and dancing. They had Jack Sparrow repel down the top mast. And everyone was dancing. There were turkey legs the size of a body builders arm, a fajita bar, desserts of all kind, and a big finale with fireworks. It was awesome to see Hilde get into the dancing and have so much fun. When we went to the cabin the little boys were asleep, but Dave got a chance to sample the turkey leg we brought back. Very fun.

It looks beautiful, though, even if everything was closed. Oh, how I love Europe!!!!!`
