As we pulled into the port at Naples, we could see islands in the fog, it was very cool. Our excursion for the day was called Tastes of Sorrento and Timeless Pompeii. It was an all day affair. After getting off the boat we got on a bus to drive up to Sorrento. On the way there we passed some of the most amazing scenery I have seen in my life. There was one photo opportunity, but mostly you just looked in awe and wished you had more time to explore every bend of the road.

In Sorrento we had our first Gelato of the trip, it was fabulous. I had the Perugina chocolate hazelnut - where can I get more???

Guess if Phinn liked Gelato?

While walking through town Hilde became EXTREMELY excited about a Hello Kitty store. We had no idea she even like Hello Kitty. But, clearly, she does.

When we got to the farm above Sorrento they gave us a quick tour of their lemon and olive groves. They showed us their cold presses for making olive oil and finished up shaping a ball of freshly made mozzarella and another type of cheese. It was nice, but we were a little disappointed that it was so short and didn't really live up to the billing (see how mozzarella cheese is made).

We ate a mediocre lunch at the farm, and sat with a woman and her college aged daughter. Hilde ordered a hamburger and when it came it out it was pretty much inedible. The lady said - "it's no McDonald's is it?" To which Hilde responded "My mom and dad don't let me go to McDonald's, is it really good?" After a little more conversation, the woman told us she owns a McDonald's. Hilde was very impressed and we were just glad we didn't say anything bad! After lunch, we hopped on the bus and drove to Pompeii.

Pompeii was amazing and I wish we could have spent hours exploring it. BUT, Phinn had enough of the stroller, enough of the heat, enough of the direct sun on his head, enough of everything. So we took a break in the shade and then left Pompeii to wait at some tables outside the gates. Phinn was much happier after that, and stole the hearts of every Italian in a 2 mile radius. People were coming up and asking to hold him, this kid was our golden ticket everywhere we went in Italy. So if you are planning a trip to Italy in your future, taking along a 10 month old is a great idea.

After we got back on the ship, the kids were begging to go and play, so we dropped them off. We took Phinn to the nursery, and we headed to the Adult only restaurant. We got all dressed up and had a fabulous meal. It was by far the best food on the ship. It was a lovely night. When we picked the kids up around 10 they were all awake, including Phinn. But they all were out within minutes of getting back to the cabin and slept like logs. Awesome.

Every time I am in Italy I get gelato 3 times a day. Can't help it- it's THAT good.
Wishing I were tagging along, pulling your suitcases for you! You're having such a fabulous time. So glad. And Hilde's gelato looked delish!
I'm loving your trip. What fascinating places to stir the imagination of kids as well as adults. I've never found a really good gelato outside of Italy-- maybe it's partly the atmosphere. Chocolate noisette--wow!
