Freya Bronwyn Younce

After months of anticipation, Freya Bronwyn Younce joined our family on 1 December 2011.  We checked into Fair Oaks Hospital at 7 in the morning for a 7:30 inducement.  Grandma Carol had spent the night and was taking the older kids to school.  We dropped Phinn off at daycare on our way in.  At the hospital we were full of anticipation.  We filled out paperwork and waited for the process to start.  Due to my fast labors they gave me the epidural before starting the Pitocin - the first time I didn't experience the hard pains of labor!  Hip, hip, hooray.  Then we waited and waited and waited.  It was odd, because things were moving extraordinarily slow for me.  We watched True Grit on the hospital TV, played on our IPads, read, and waited some more.  My blood pressure dropped too low so they gave me something to speed it up.  They checked me every few hours and finally, in the afternoon, she had moved far enough down the birth canal for the nurses to be able to touch her and they discovered the problem.  Freya was a trying to be born face first.  And she was getting stuck.  Apparently this is pretty uncommon, our nurse had never seen it before (she was pretty young though).  My doctor came in and said that we would have to do a C-section.  Everything moved quickly after that.  Dave got dressed in his jumpsuit, I was wheeled into an operating room and prepped for surgery.  I was a little scared, but never felt that the baby or I was in danger.  At 5:15 PM we welcomed our new little girl into our family.  She was 8 pounds, 3 ounces, 19 inches long and beautiful.  After surgery we had to wait in the recovery area for a little over an hour while they monitored us.  We were overhearing couples next to us that had far more harrowing experiences and were extremely grateful that our process was not nearly as scary.  I am so excited to have her in my arms, and to not be pregnant anymore!
