Hilde's birthday party

For the first time in 5 years, we agreed to have a real birthday party.  Hilde invited several of her closest friends over for a few games, pizza and cupcakes.  They started off playing Pirate Fluxx while they waited for everyone to arrive.

After pizza they played a game where they had 60 seconds to move m&ms from a plate into a cup, using a straw.  It was hilarious.  Some of the girls struggled the whole time, but a few found a technique and rhythm that worked very well.

Then daddy very proudly taught everyone the candy bar game, apparently a Younce family classic.  He had wrapped up a large candy bar in several layers of newspaper.  Then we put the wrapped up candy bar on a cutting board with a knife beside it.  After that every one stood up around the table.  There was one pair of dice.  You picked up the dice and rolled them.  If you got a double of anything, you got to go up to the front where the candy bar was.  You had to then put on a bunch of winter gear. Hat, scarf, gloves and after everything was on you could pick up the knife and try to cut through the candy bar.  While you were doing that, the dice kept getting passed and if another double was rolled, your turn was over.  You go until, at last, someone cuts into the candy bar and takes a bite.  Then they win the candy bar.  This was a huge hit, lots of yelling, jumping up and down, and overall excitement.  We played it twice.

Then there was present opening, dancing to loud music and general playing.  It was a lot of fun, happy birthday to the 10 year old.
