Although he has insisted for years that he is in fact, FIVE, Phinn finally turned four on July 20th. It was a Saturday, and it was jam packed with events.
First off we had to head over to our Community Center since Hilde was selected to swim backstroke in her first A Meet.
Look at this swimmer. She was as nervous as I have ever seen her. Only the best swimmers get to swim in the A meets, and she never expected to make it into one. However, as she consistently kept winning the B meets, we always knew there was a chance she would make her way up. Which is exactly what happened. The very last A meet of the year she was asked to swim in it. There were 6 swimmers and she was sure she would be last.
She was amazing. I love watching her swim, her body is so graceful in the water. And fast. She came in third, scored points for her team, and got a ribbon. We are so proud of this girl for conquering her fear. Even if she had been in last place, I could not have been more proud of her.
After we got home we opened up one of Phinn's birthday presents, a big cardboard spaceship!
It required destroying the pirate ship that we had from Spring Break, which was falling apart from love.
Then we did a Huge Slip and Slide extravaganza. Phinn thought it was fun standing at the end shooting at people as they arrived at the bottom.
Freya was the cutest thing ever. She went down the slide on her own several times.
Freya took over water duty and stood at the top of the slide for about 30 minutes looking exactly like this:
Then it was birthday party time.
This is the cutest 4 year old I know! And his favorite gift was his treasure chest full of pirate gold and a treasure map. ARRRRR!
One last photo of Hilde from the swim meet, love this girl.
Phinn is such a fun kid. He can be a little obstinate when he has decided not to like something, but most of the time he is loving, full of energy, and a naturally enthusiastic kid. This year he asked for his now signature birthday cake: chocolate cake, chocolate frosting, chocolate sprinkles and chocolate ice cream. We sure love you Phinn.
